Apex have installed a treatment solution for the high-flow low-strength rinse water stream that is currently discharged from the scour. The system includes an Apex-designed dissolved air flotation plant with automatic chemical dosing systems and process control upgrades to reduce suspended solids and colour to the point where water can be recycled back to the process. This system helps to reduce the discharge from site from in excess of 1,000 to 250 m3/day. The system also includes a stirred buffer tank, a comprehensive instrumentation package and an automated diversion system to discharge wastewater to drain should the required level of treatment not be met.
